My room

Yesterday afternoon I had layout digital painting tutorial by Katie Fomina. I was really enthusiastic to learn new secrets in this subject, both for digital panting and layout. Thanks Katie!
We had to take with us a drawing from life of any layout and a picture reference to pick up the tonality. So, these are my pictures from my room:

After all afternoon (about 3h) this is my final digital painting version:

From my window

Could be sunny or raining, but those pigeons are always there... All the times I look out from my windows I know I will find them.

Layout Thumbnails

Some thumbnails from today for studying the lights and how they work. I used some picture from Toy Story 3 as references.

Character Design with Gillian Reid

This week we had a workshop with the Character Designer Gillian Reid. It was such fun!
She started by explaining how she usually worked and asked us to do the same: we had to imagine a character and his hobby.
Here is my old grumpy granny with a secret passion for DJing and electronic music!
Firstly, we had to make different shapes trying to go over the stereotypes:

After we found the shape we prefered, we had to draw different rough positions of our character without going into too much detail:

Later we had to do the same with the head and the expressions, going more in details:

This is the result of the few hours of workshop with Gillian and I enjoy it so much. After a morning like this, how can you stop drawing? Such fun... So, I just drew few more pictures before my wrist "told me" to stop.

ENJOY!

Rehearsal studio_ Anacrusi

Finally I finished it! It took longer than I thought because I had some right-hand pains, but as soon as I could I completed it.

Now it prints on the window of Anacrusi music school!

Some summer sketches

Few weeks ago I finished another sketchbook and these sketches are a few from the last pages. Summer in Italy is getting really hot and so, i passed a lot of afternoon at home under in the shade and that little bit of cool. I passed more time looking to new amazing artists in the web and try to learn from them rather than keep drawing. As I said, i finished my last sketchbook and i still didn't find a new one. I have to do it soon...

Coming back in Italy I also met again some close friend and one of this I used often to draw her portraits. Like this one:

Time to pack

Today was such a looong day!

I'm moving out from my current home in few days and today I had to move all my stuff in the new one. So, after hours and hours of packing I decided to transfer all my stress in a drawing.

I never thought moving was so hard...

Botanic explorer's studio

This is my last uni work for this year! yes, I already finished a year: where the hell is it gone?? Time passes really fast when you enjoy it.

This part of the project was to invent the work-room of an "artist" of our choice. In the end, I chose a botanist/explorer who lives in a tree house in the jungle. The clean up, the b&w tonal and the colour section took me one complete day and a night ( yes, I didn't sleep at all!). I am not used to do layouts and color them, especially in Photoshop, but I had quite some fun making them. I think I will use photoshop+tablet again.

Smoke effect animation

This is a smoke effect animation I did for one of the 3rd year projects. I used this amazing video vimeo.com/35850069 as reference. It took me one week to understand it and elaborate a first rough animation, which I then cleaned up.
I can't wait to see it coloured and embedded in the project :).

Happy baby elephant

This is my last animation of this year course. I looked at some video references and sometimes baby elephants are just crazy and hilarious!
Here are some character designs

Comments and critiques are welcome! Thank you

Jump!

I have finally finished my jump animation exercise! The final work is shorter than was supposed to be for time reasons, but I have a rough basic animation of the full thing.

So, this is the complete version:

This is the first one with the key frames (the original version):

I started trying to do the anticipation with my real character that unluckily I couldn't use in the final version: there was too much 'follow through' for the time I had.

My character was a young boy, probably already teenager, with baggy cloths.

Trying layouts

Here some layouts from the last few months: another uni work.
I have never done layouts before because I used to draw more the human figure, but I quite enjoyed drawing them. In the beginning I found it hard and boring, but soon it became easier. I tried to change media and to colour them in Photoshop and it was interesting. Maybe I found my new aim!
Uni is getting really hard especially because this is the last month (already!!!). In the end of it I will show you why I am so busy... and I hope to find more free time to do my personal works. It is something that I really miss doing!

These are copies from real life, the majority of and from my room and house in England.
